Halloween costumes for grownups: What's your get-up to go?
Trick or treat! It's almost Halloween. Have you chosen a costume? Made up your masquerade?
Just use a little ingenuity, and you'll be on your way. The most memorable Halloween ensembles are not always the costliest. Instead, the best costumes incorporate creativity and good, old-fashioned fun.
This year's favorite costumes include plenty of celebrity impersonators, but creative Halloween celebrants may also appear in more imaginative forms.
Poke through your own closet, or pick from the racks at rummage sales or thrift stores. You never know what you might find. A discarded prom dress or bridesmaid gown can be the basis for a tremendous Halloween outfit, if you add a few embellishments or the right accessories. Be a fairy princess with wings, a gypsy enchantress or a ballerina with a tulle petticoat.
Vintage styles are also popular for this crazy autumn holiday. Grab a tie-dyed shirt and a pair of bellbottom jeans. Stick on some granny glasses for a flower child costume. Or choose a velvety Victorian gown with a lace-up bodice for Renaissance flair.
Don't forget to ponder pajamas, as you create your Halloween costume. Bright stripes or polka dots might be the stuff of a comical clown outfit.
If you're feeling extra adventurous, check out discarded men's styles. Can you stencil a plain one-piece jumpsuit to become an escaped jailbird for Halloween? Pick a glitzy jumpsuit to be a female Elvis impersonator. Or wear camouflage clothing with face paint for a military look.
