9 Summer Fashion Trends Under $100

Who doesn't love summer? The mercury starts to rise, the sun shines brightly, and suddenly we're all a little happier. And, as an added bonus, the change in season also gives us a perfect excuse to do a little shopping. To update your wardrobes for warmer temps this year, look to these nine runway-inspired trends-each one sure to keep you looking cool in every sense of the word. Best of all, each of these picks can be yours for less than $100!

1. Overstated Footwear
Runway shows are often full of outrageous footwear that most of us would never dare wear and this season was no exception. But, that doesn't mean we can't play with the trend in a more real-life-worthy way. The "Letitgo" wedge from Nine West takes a basic wedge shape (perfect for summer-who wants to sink into the grass!) and covers it in a fun, bold floral pattern. Pair them with the orange shorts (below) for the perfect summer look. ($88.95 at Nordstrom)

2. Tangerine Orange
Pantone, the authority on color and color trends has declared tangerine orange as the color of 2012. If you're not quite sure how to incorporate such a bold shade into your wardrobe, pairing a neutral tee or tank with J. Crew's classic twill shorts ($48 at J. Crew)

3. Sheer
Lacy and sheer fabrics were seen in abundance on the spring and summer runways and, while we love the look, it's probably one of those trends you don't' want to drop too much money on. Thankfully Forever 21 has several sheer options, like this breezy sleeveless tie-neck top. Just don't forget to wear a tank underneath! ($17.80 from Forever 21)

4. Tribal Designs
The "tribal" moniker can cause some people to bristle, especially when the look on display is just a generic mish-mash of prints and materials. Instead of picking up some designer's idea of tribal design, grab this necklace from Bluma Project, which produces eco-friendly items hand-made by women in Rwanda and Ghana and are inspired by local designs. ($75 at Shopbop)

5. Silver Sandals
From clothing to accessories to cosmetics, metallics were all over the runways. But, we know a pair of metallic pants is definitely not for everyone. If you want to play with the trend without looking like you're from the future, try a pair of strappy silver sandals like the "Budry" style from Vigotti pictured here. They'll go with almost everything in your summer wardrobe and keep you looking current. ($99 at Zappos)
