Tacos, quesadillas, cheesesteaks are on the menu at this new Burlington County restaurant

BURLINGTON TWP. – Are you in the mood for quesadillas, tacos, sliders or cheesesteaks?

Remiix, a new Black-owned take-out café at Coopertown Plaza, has you covered.

Owners Deyea Small and Joseph Alston had the grand opening for their new venture on April 13. Small previously had a popular food truck, which sold similar food, but decided to branch out to a brick-and-mortar. So far, it’s been well received.

Small, native of Newark, in Essex County, currently resides in Delran. She has been a business owner in Burlington County for years, previously co-owning a hair salon, prior to her food truck venture.

“I had a food truck,” Small said. “I still wanted to do food. I went back to hair for a little bit, but we came up with this. My boyfriend is my partner, we said ‘let’s do this, let’s continue on.’ We had such an overwhelming response to the food that was on the food truck.

“What the focus is, it came from all the things that I like. I took them and I put them together. We’re not Spanish or Mexican, but we love tacos, so why not just do it the way we do it. Sloppy Joe’s, that’s the sliders, quesadillas, birria tacos, fish and shrimp, salmon cheesesteak, oxtail cheesesteak. I just took all of that and put it together.”

Small said Alston is from Willingboro but was living in Philadelphia, so cheesesteaks were on his mind.

“We did a thing and Remiix came about,” she said.

Small moved to the area in 2001 and was a hairstylist at a salon in Willingboro. She then helped open a salon in Willingboro with a business partner in 2008, and retired from hair styling in 2021 to focus on her food truck.

Remiix serves chicken or beef birria tacos, chicken, vegan, salmon or shrimp tacos, fried fish and shrimp. There is a banana pudding cheesecake she says they can’t keep on the shelf, as well as pound cake, cake pops and smoothies.

The restaurant is located in the same shopping plaza as Pizza, Wings, Steaks and Things, Clover Meat Market, Dollar General, Dunkin’, a laundromat, barber shop, and more. The address is 1105 Sunset Road, Unit D. The hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Small said the support has been “absolutely amazing. The community has supported us overwhelmingly. It’s been a good month so far. I am very humbled by it and I’m grateful. We both are grateful.”
