Tacoma Humane Society Sets Record for Adoptions During Capacity Crisis

Animal shelter overcrowding is a pressing and widespread issue in the United States. Annually, an astonishing number of approximately 6.3 million companion animals find their way into shelters across the country. One shelter that had a problem with having too many animals and not enough help or resources was the Humane Society of Tacoma, Washington.

The shelter was running out of kennel space so they put a crisis message out into the community and 287 pets found new forever homes, and donations came pouring in.

People are so thrilled and touched by this fantastic news and @Melissa comments, "I’m severely bawling! This is unheard of! I work in rescue and it’s so hard but this is beautiful!"@Audra adds, "Rockstar community for this!" Another user said, "Adopted our family cat from here and lived with us for an amazing 19 years. Y’all are amazing!" @Cheryl responds, "Amazing - wish this could happen for more shelters." @MamaT replies, "Thank you to each and every one of you that donated, fostered and adopted! Y’all are amazing!"
