For a week in April, every day will be Taco Tuesday.

The man who set up Louisville Burger Week, Louisville Pizza Week and Louisville Restaurant Week added a new themed promotion last spring. Now, Louisville Taco Week returns, featuring tacos for $2 each at participating locations across the city.

Louisville Taco Week will run from April 4-10. Participating restaurants will offer specialty $2 tacos the whole week, with a minimum order of three tacos. Most restaurants will be offering takeout options.

Organizer Tony Frank said the event was created last year to embrace the food culture of Louisville while getting customers out to try new taco and margarita offerings in the Derby City. It was also something customers who participated in other foodie weeks asked about.

New this year is the launch of an official Taco Week app, with the full list of restaurants, specials, locations and hours available. Guests will be able to check in to earn points. Check-in at four or more locations on the app to be entered to win $250 in gift cards and El Jimador merchandise.

Restaurants participating in the taco week include Agave & Rye, Bandido Taqueria in Falls City and the University of Louisville, Happy Belly Bistro, I Love Tacos in Jeffersontown, Springhurst and the Highlands, Limon Y Sal, Merle's Whiskey Kitchen, Senor Iguanas, Taco City in the Highlands and Middletown, Zombie Taco and more to be announced. Each restaurant will feature special tacos during the week. Bandido Taqueria Mexicana has three specials: a marinated pork taco with grilled pineapple, a carne asada taco and a Baja fish taco. El Catrin Mexican Kitchen is serving a Tinga taco made with chipotle-braised chicken and refried black beans. I Love Tacos also has a Tinga taco, along with a "Masita de Puerco" grilled slow-cooked pork taco and vegetarian taco.

"People want to feel like they're part of something bigger and doing something more than just going out to eat," Frank said. "It does something psychological for the consumer: it's good for the mind, the soul and the belly."
