Prices for several of Taco Bell‘s most popular items, including the Tacos Supreme, have gone up exponentially as of late—and customers are calling these instances of fast-food inflation “highway robbery.”

Critics of the Mexican food chain have taken to Reddit to protest the restaurant’s increasing prices, discussing the “biggest ripoff items” Taco Bell has to offer and how egregious the price hikes really appear to be:

Taco Bell Customers Debate Biggest ‘Ripoff’ Menu Items

The discussion of biggest “ripoff” items at Taco Bell became passionate, with many users throwing in their 2 cents.

“Uncontested biggest rip off of course goes to the Quesadilla,” commented one Redditor with certainty. Another agreed and complained about quality control: “Specifically, the cheese quesadilla. Absolute ripoff at $4.39 even if made perfect, which it rarely is. I typically only get cheese on two of the four slices.”

"The shrinkflation on this product has been insane," said a commenter, referring to the pictured Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes and the perceived change in size of the item versus the increase in price. Of the potato side, another user said, "Close 2nd. Biggest ripoff is cheesy roll up," while a different fast-food fan agreed, "As a long time cheesy fiesta potato lover I have to agree with you.. they just aren’t what they used to be. I’m still going to order them for the nostalgia tho lol It’s one of the last of my favorite items on the menu.."Another Redditor made a case for a different cheesy item: "The cheesy gordita crunch is basically $5. It might be one of the most popular items but it’s incredibly overpriced."

One user commented, "The biggest rip off item on the menu is a single crunchy taco supreme for $3. Three crunchy tacos is $10 with tax. That's unbelievable." Other Redditors agreed, with some on a separate r/TacoBell post calling out the price increases for Tacos Supreme.

Fans Comment: 'A Chalupa Supreme [For $6] Is Highway Robbery'

On one post by a Redditor asking if their Taco Bell's prices seemed more expensive than usual (including a menu photo of a Chalupa Supreme being offered for $5.69), commenters were outraged at the perceived increase of the classic TBell item.

"A Chalupa Supreme for $6 (tax included) is highway robbery," wrote one critic. "Where I am, a cheese quesadilla is $6.94 and a Doritos cheesy gordita crunch is $6.45," shared another commenter. "That's robbery right? I see other people complaining about $3-$4, but we are way more than double the price from just a year or two ago, with no increase in quality." Others noted the difference in price from location to location: "They 4.69 where I'm at if that helps," added a Reddit user; another commented, "Chalupa is $3.79 in my neck of the woods."

Taco Bell has received widespread criticism in recent days for their increased item prices, with some saying that the chain is "no longer for the poor" and noting that some prices "had gone up almost double."

The chain has not commented on the price increases nor customer accusations of "shrinkflation" affecting menu items.
