Taco Bell is continuing to fulfill the appetites of its customers thanks to a savory plant-based protein the fast food chain plans on testing next month. Beginning October 13, and for a limited time, the new Beyond Carne Asada Steak will be available to Taco Bell customers in the Dayton, Ohio area.

The menu item, which is certified vegan, is made using simple plant-based ingredients and a blend of Taco Bell's signature spices.

During its test run in Dayton, Beyond Carne Asada Steak will be featured in a quesadilla, but customers can also add the protein to any item on the menu. Beyond Carne Asada Steak Nachos BellGrande, anyone?

While testing the new offering in the Taco Bell Test Kitchen, the chain was adamant about keeping the bold flavors customers know and love.

"At Taco Bell, we've long believed that anyone should be able to choose plant-based menu items without compromising the flavors they crave," said Liz Matthews, Taco Bell's Global Chief Food Innovation Officer, in a statement. "That's why we at Taco Bell are thrilled to reveal the result of our long-standing partnership with Beyond Meat, which is previously unseen in the QSR industry. This plant-based carne asada steak is just the latest move in our history of crafting some of the most unique, craveworthy offerings for all fans."

Beyond Carne Asada Steak hardly serves as the first plant-based protein Taco Bell has tested. Just last year, the restaurant introduced the Cravetarian Taco, a taco crafted using a seasoned plant-based protein made from a blend of peas and chickpeas.
