In 2016, Taco Bell welcomed the Quesalupa to the menu. It disappeared, much to many people’s dismay, but news broke in 2020 that the Mexican fast food chain was testing out the item again. Now it’s official that the cheesy bite is back for a limited time across the country.

The Quesalupa was one of the brand’s biggest limited time offers in history, according to Taco Bell, so it only makes sense that it has returned in 2021. It just might be even better this time around, because it packs 50% more cheese inside its double-layered shell. To turn a chalupa into a Quesalupa, the chain stuffs the crispy chalupa shell with a blend of melted pepper jack and mozzarella cheeses. Then, the shell is filled with seasoned beef, lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and reduced-fat sour cream.

Customers will be able to get the Quesalupa beginning on March 11, but if you’re a Taco Bell Rewards Beta member, you get early access to it on March 10 before it goes nationwide. Although we get more cheese this time around, Taco Bell is keeping the prices the same as they were in 2016 by offering the Quesalupa for $2.99 a la carte or $6.99 for a combo, which adds two Crunchy Tacos and a large fountain drink.

“Our customers raved about the cheese filled Chalupa shell in its first debut, so when the Quesalupa began its return journey back to nationwide menus, we knew we needed to perfect that cheesy experience — one that will be consistent for every guest and every bite,” Liz Matthews, Taco Bell’s Global Chief Food Innovation Officer, said in a press release.

It looks like we know where we’ll be eating lunch (and possibly dinner, too) this week! Meet you at the drive-thru.
