Over six months ago, Taco Bell announced that it would be testing out the Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco. The menu offering was only available in locations in Nashville, Tennessee and Charlotte, North Carolina. The testing went well, because the bite is officially becoming available nationwide!

Beginning on Sept. 2, you can order the Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco at participating locations for a limited time. The all-white meat crispy chicken is marinated in jalapeño buttermilk, seasoned with bold Mexican spices, and rolled in a crunchy tortilla chip coating. It’s served in a taco-shaped warm soft flatbread with Taco Bell’s signature creamy chipotle sauce. You can order it Regular or Spicy, which has crunchy jalapeño slices to give that extra kick.

The new menu item is available a la carte for $2.39, buy two for $4.49, or in a $5.49 Crispy Chicken Sandwich Box, which comes with a Beefy 5-Layer Burrito, Crunchy Taco, and medium fountain drink. Meet you at the drive-thru!

“Our new crispy chicken innovation is far from the average chicken sandwich, and we’re certain it will get a spicy reaction from sandwich and taco fans alike,” Liz Matthews, Taco Bell’s global chief food innovation officer, said in a press release. “Even the masterminds from our test kitchen couldn’t decide if it was more taco or sandwich, which is why we’re excited to bring in the debate team experts to have some fun.”

Last month, Taco Bell announced that it would be bringing a new chicken item to the menu in 2021. We expected the news to come eventually, but not this soon! Hey, no complaints here. Now we know that the Mexican fast food chain is unveiling the Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco.

Right off the bat, you may be wondering if this is a sandwich or a taco, and the answer is that it’s both. It starts with puffy bread that’s shaped like a hard shell taco. It’s filled with premium all-white-meat crispy chicken that was marinated in jalapeño buttermilk, seasoned with bold Mexican spices, and rolled in a crunchy tortilla chip coating. To complete the sandwich-taco, it’s topped with a signature creamy chipotle sauce. The Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco is available in regular and spicy varieties, with the latter including crunchy jalapeño slices to take the heat up several notches.

The new chicken item will begin testing at locations in Nashville, Tennessee and Charlotte, North Carolina for a limited time on March 11. Have no fear, because Taco Bell has confirmed to Best Products that the Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco will debut nationwide later this year.

As if this news isn’t enough, the Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco, which will cost $2.49, isn’t the only crispy chicken innovation coming to Taco Bell in 2021. Any guesses? It’s wild to think that Taco Bell just started its crispy chicken journey in 2015 with the Crispy Chicken Chickstar. Since then, we’ve been introduced to the Naked Chicken Chips and Naked Chicken Chalupa in 2017. It just keeps getting better and better!
