Taco Bell Is Adding New Items Like a $5 Grande Stacker Box And Dragonfruit Freeze

2020 has been a year filled with disappointment and frustration. Obviously the composition of Taco Bell’s menu isn’t the most important thing right now, but the retirement of craveable menu items like the fun and funky Mexican Pizza— not to mention shredded chicken and pico de gallo— certainly leaves mas than a small hole in the hearts of Taco Bell fans.

The good news, though, is that these menu subtractions have paved the way for certain new additions that you’ll find on Taco Bell menus nationwide, plus one interesting test item for those lucky enough to live in a particular market.

Starting Thursday, September 24, the $5 Grande Stacker Box will attempt to appease frustrated Taco Bell fans by feeding them a tri-folded and grilled seasoned beef quesadilla with mozzarella, cheddar, pepper jack cheese, and a nacho cheese sauce. If the Grande Stacker itself wasn’t enough to get you to quit your bellyaching about the menu changes, maybe an additional two crunchy tacos and a medium drink (Baja Blast) for just $5 will at least fill some small void in your soul left by the Mexican Pizza’s disappearance.

If drinking something frozen would help put your Taco Bell sadness on ice, then maybe the Dragonfruit Freeze is the new menu item for you. Made from a dragon fruit base swirled with a burst of pink dragonfruit, this certainly increases the percentage of items on the menu that feature dragonfruit. If you’re feeling cheap and want to try it out, Taco Bell’s “happier hour” (2-5 PM) is when you can grab it for just a buck.

If you happen to live in Knoxville, Tennessee, the good news is that you get to enjoy more new stuff from Taco Bell than the rest of us. The Quesalupa, which features “a deep fried Quesalupa shell stuffed with melty pepper jack and mozzarella cheeses” that’s then filled with beef, sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheddar. Vegetarians might also want to keep an eye on the Quesalupa, as a meatless alternative that replaces the beef with black beans is also part of the test.

In case food or drinks can’t atone for the menu’s absences, maybe the chance to win a new Xbox Series X will. Purchasing a medium or large drink will give you a chance to win the new Microsoft console, perfect for locking yourself inside and gaming until there’s a vaccine.

So, yeah. The world still isn’t great and Taco Bell didn’t totally fix its menu, but at least it’s getting there. Maybe once those wings show up, we’ll really have something to celebrate.
