We Can’t Stop Thinking About This Jon Snow & Viserion ‘Game of Thrones’ Theory
In Game of Thrones, the Targaryens have their “Dragon Dreams,” the Starks have their dire wolves (well, two out of six), and the Lannisters have a shared approach to debt consolidation. But what if something unites two characters in season eight for reasons that go beyond house allegiance?
In the season seven finale, the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) killed Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) beloved dragon Viserion and turned him into a fire-breathing ice dragon/White Walker depending on who you ask. (It should be noted there’s some debate about whether Viserion is a wight or a White Walker.) But Viserion isn’t the only GoT character who’s been brought back from the dead.
If you’ll remember (JK, how could you forget?), Jon Snow (Kit Harington) was stabbed to death in the season five finale by Alliser Thorne (Owen Teale) and several others from the Night’s Watch who decided he was a traitor. Luckily for us (and Dany), he was resurrected by Melisandre (Carice van Houten) in season six, episode two—aka he was brought back from the dead just like Viserion.
Now, Jon and Viserion aren’t the only ones in the series who’ve been brought back to life or turned into a White Walker. Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer) was revived by the Red Priest Thoros of Myr (Paul Kaye) six times and Craster’s (Robert Pugh) baby boy was turned into a White Walker, although he technically was alive when that happened. The difference between Jon and them though is that he has Targaryen blood. This means he’s basically a dragon whisperer and just doesn’t know the extent of his powers yet.
So according to the theory, when the Night King raids Winterfell with his army of the undead, Jon Snow may be able to communicate with Viserion via some we-both-died-and-were-brought-back-to-life-and-I’m-actually-a-Targaryen bond and get him to stand down. But first Jon would have to find out he’s related to Dany and is, in fact, a Targaryen, which will be way awkward.
