I fully subscribe to the belief that if any article of clothing has superpowers, it's the humble cardigan. An unsung hero for layering and tricky weather, cardigans are my 'ole reliable whenever I have no idea what to wear, but just want to look nice. In dressing for our strange, new world—well, you can guess which staple I've leaned on most.

Though there's no shortage of brands making cardigans these days, I'm of the opinion that one reigns supreme. My friends, family, and innocent bystanders who've witnessed me go on and on about this will already know this to be French ready-to-wear label Maje.

To be clear, Maje doesn't just make one single type of cardigan. Their collections typically include a few different silhouettes, with no two styles ever the exact same. Personally, I reserve the most fandom for the brand's slightly cropped and fitted styles, which seem to come back in new forms and designs each season. (And hopefully always do.)

Subtle panache aside, what most sets Maje's cardigans apart, in my opinion, is immaculate tailoring. As someone who coexists with clothes of the dramatically oversized and skintight varieties, my three Maje cardigans get more mileage than anything else in my closet. Simply put, they just look and feel great to wear.

While upwards of $350 for anything lightweight is undoubtedly a splurge, it's worth noting that brand's end-of-season sales (one is on as we speak) tend to be generous in their discounts. Also, because Maje cardigans can be dressed up or down with bare minimum effort, I'd estimate the cost-per-wear of each cardigan I've bought from the brand to be comparable to iced-coffee.

Maje's Miami-inspired SS23 collection is live now and naturally, I'm waiting with bated breath to catch any of their newest masterpieces on sale. Until then, you can catch me happily repeat-wearing the cardigans I currently live in.
