Syrup Isn't Just for Pancakes Anymore Thanks to K-Beauty's "Syrup Nails"

Food, condiment and beverage-inspired nails have sparked all of the rage among manicure enthusiasts. From "Glazed Donut" to "Blueberry Milk" nails, we're loving that our favorite comfort items are being turned into trends and we have K-beauty to thank for this. The newest trend to hit the nail scene is called "Syrup Nails," and it's all about sweet, sticky goodness.

What Are "Syrup Nails?"

This aesthetic originated in Japan back in 2015 and has since made its way to Seoul, Korea, before finally reaching the United States. With over 8.2 million views on TikTok, it's no surprise that people are going crazy over this delicious-looking manicure. Syrup nails are perfect for natural manicure lovers as they create a beautiful gradient or ombre effect using sheer, jelly-like nail polish applied in layers to mimic the look of poured syrup.

How To Create "Syrup Nails?"

The look is totally DIY-able and can be achieved at home or in-salon using a gel or regular nail polish. The key to acing "Syrup Nails" is to use soft and sheer colors at the base of your nail and then the most pigmented shade at the tip. (Think pastels, nudes and neutral shades for the base.)

Once your base is dry, paint the tip of your nails in the frame of a classic French tip — being careful not to make the line even as it will show through the next layer rather than being smooth.

After the first coat is dry, do another layer with a heavy coat of polish near the tip, but drag it further. Repeat the process once the coat is dry, pulling the polish closer to your cuticle after each coating. Do this until you see a smooth gradient finish that is sheer at the base and opaque at the tip.

Lastly, add a swipe of glossy top coat for the "syrupy" look and there you have it: "Syrup Nails."
