The Symbolic Meaning Behind Meghan Markle's New Diamond Pinky Ring—And How to Get One of Your Own

Although her public appearances aren't as frequent as they were when she was a working royal, Meghan Markle still makes a conscious effort to dress in a wardrobe that is both stylish and meaningful when she steps out. Case in point: when the Duchess of Sussex was on a trip to New York City with Prince Harry earlier this month, she was spotted on two separate occasions wearing diamond pinky rings that carry a special message.

The dazzling new pieces are by Shiffon Co., a female-founded jewelry brand that the royal has been a fan of for years. Dubbed the 1972 Tennis Pinky Ring, the soon-to-be-released bauble celebrates the recent 50th anniversary of Title IX, the landmark gender equity law that banned discrimination based on gender in federally funded education programs and helped increase access for women and girls to participate in sports programs in schools. Adding to its symbolic significance, 19.72% of profits from the ring will go to the company's Women in Sports Investment fund in honor of the legislation and the year it passed.

Shiffon Co.'s newest diamond ring is an updated version of the company's signature Duet Pinky Ring, which Meghan also wore when she graced the cover of TIME Magazine with her husband last year. Like the original design, it features a spiral silhouette but with all-around diamonds inspired by a tennis bracelet. In addition to her NYC appearances, she previously sported the dainty pinky rings to Queen Elizabeth's Trooping the Colour last month, as well as at the Invictus Games in April.

While it's not available to the public yet (it's good to be a duchess) the 1972 Tennis Pinky Ring, will soon be available in 14k or 18k yellow, white, and rose gold, from $2,580 to $2,800. Only 1,972 rings will be made, so better get your name on the waitlist quickly so you can add a touch of that Duchess of Sussex style to your jewelry wardrobe as soon as the ring debuts.
