Sydney's Taronga Zoo Introduces Long-Nosed Fur Seal Pup with the Most Fitting Name

When I think back at just how many trips to the zoo I took as a kid, it makes a lot of sense that I ended up writing about animals for a living. It can be so fun to watch critters big and small hanging out in their habitats, though by far, my favorite sightings were the baby animals.

It wasn't common to see a baby zoo animal taking center stage in their habitat until they were a bit older, and that's still the case today. In Sydney, Australia's Taronga Zoo, for example, a baby long-nosed fur seal was born on Christmas Eve, but she's yet to make a public appearance. For now, she's learning about life with her mom, Keke, though she hasn't got the hang of everything just yet.

On February 18, the Taronga Zoo seal keepers announced the baby's name as they gave a much-anticipated update on her arrival. She may be young, but she's already making waves!

What an adorable seal pup! Little Eve has no idea just how gorgeous she is, but her eyes could do the entire world's bidding by themselves. Who knew the best puppy dog eyes would come from a fur seal? Because I sure didn't! And how fitting that they named her Eve since she was born on Christmas Eve!

Naturally, Australian zoo visitors aren't the only ones who are falling in love. As Eve's video continues to go viral, she continues to make more and more fans across social media. By the time she's a strong enough swimmer to move to her forever habitat, she'll have a line of visitors waiting out the door just to see her.

Now that the baby seal is nearly 2 months old, she needs to practice her swimming skills so she can stay safe in the adult habitat. But that's what her mama is for!

Finding Fitting Pet Names Can Be Challenging

Unless you adopt a pet who responds to the perfect name, you'll have to pick one for them. But what could you choose? There's no pressure, of course, to devise the perfect monicker in front of a huge audience of zoo staff and visitors, so they took the time to find an animal name with that best fit. And in the end, they named her Eve!

This baby animal was a Christmas Eve baby, so her name couldn't possibly be more fitting. And now, it's only a matter of time before the public gets to meet her!
