Sydney Sweeney Brings Sheer Trend in White Givenchy Dress to ‘Anyone but You’ Red Carpet

Sydney Sweeney arrived on the red carpet in Australia for the Sydney screening of her new movie “Anyone but You,” on Monday, wearing a white Grecian-inspired sheer dress with a cascading open-back, cinched fabric at the hip and a knee-high slit from Givenchy. Underneath the sheer dress, she wore a white bra and white underwear. She accessorized her dress with diamond rings and diamond earrings.

To create her look for the Australian screening of “Anyone but You,” Sweeney worked with stylist Molly Dickson, who dressed her for the movie’s promotional tour in brands such as Fendi, Victoria Beckham and Balmain. Dickson also works with Lucy Hale, Sadie Sink and Ariana Greenblatt.

Sweeney’s Givenchy dress marks one of the last set of designs the public will see from creative director Matthew Williams. On Dec. 1, WWD reported Williams and Givenchy would be parting ways after their three-year collaboration. His final collections for the brand were the men’s and women’s pre-fall 2024 lines. His departure from the brand will be effective Jan. 1.

Despite Williams departure from the brand, he still has his own brand, 1017 Alyx 9SM, to focus on. In mid-November, Williams forged a business partnership with Hong Kong entrepreneur Adrian Cheng to further develop the label, open freestanding boutiques and grow high-potential categories, including jewelry, shoes and accessories.

Sydney’s choice to adopt the sheer trend comes as the style has taken front rows, runways and red carpets by storm since 2022. During New York Fashion Week in February, celebrities from Ashley Graham to Lori Harvey sported the trend in the front rows.

“Anyone but You” is a romantic comedy that tells the story of a couple who has a great first date, but their attraction to each other turns sour. However, after finding themselves attending a destination wedding, they fake being a perfect couple to keep up appearances. In addition to Sweeney, the film also stars Glen Powell, Darren Barnet and Alexandra Shipp.
