Sydney Sweeney’s black leather 'fit confirms: the peplum is back

We need to take a moment to appreciate what an *actual* style chameleon Sydney Sweeney is, because it really doesn't get said enough. Since hitting our screens as the iconic Cassie Howard in Euphoria some four (!) years ago (season three, where the hell are you!?!??!), the 25-year-old actress has tried all manner of trends on for size – and looked sensational in every single one.
For example: Syd almost broke the internet last month when she wore a teeny tiny, super-sexy string bikini on a yacht, while just a few days later she opted for a full Morticia Addams look in a black, gothic-chic Armani Privé gown. Oh, and then she seamlessly switched into Y2K school-girl mode with a pink cargo mini-skirt, baby tee and tinted sunnies as she promoted a line of drinks. All in a day's work, eh!
Well, Sydney has only just gone and repped yet *another* trend for last night's Variety Power of Young Hollywood event in LA – and it's really rather an unexpected one. Here's the 'fit in question:
No, your eyes aren't deceiving you: that really is one of the most stylish stars of the moment rocking a... peplum top. Of course, hers is Alexander McQueen, made from corseted black leather and paired with a slashed biker skirt...
But still – we haven't seen a top like that since, what, 2011? And even then it was controversial. Those long-blocked-out flashbacks to hitting the club in our very best business casual feat. a white Topshop peplum have begun already.
Does Sydney's red carpet moment mark the official return of this particularly polarising trend? We certainly hope not... But we're already eyeing up TOVE's peplum-esque bandeau tops just in case.
