The Sweet Way Kate Middleton Paid Tribute to Princess Diana at Archie's Christening
At baby Archie's christening this Saturday, it was clear that the royal family intended to honor Princess Diana by including the late princess's sisters-Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale-in the official portrait. But Kate Middleton also found her own, very subtle way to pay tribute to Diana.
In addition to a stylish hatband, red pumps, and a Stella McCartney dress, Kate chose to wear a specific pair of earrings. Known as the Collingwood Pearl Earrings, the jewels were given to Princess Diana by Collingwood jewelers as a wedding present. She first wore them about a month before her nuptials, and donned them frequently thereafter-including at Prince Harry's own christening, back in 1984.
By wearing them to Harry's son's christening, Kate could include a piece of Princess Diana in the official photos, even if Archie's grandmother couldn't be there. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry both likely appreciated Kate's thoughtful choice of jewelry, as they've frequently honored Diana themselves since Archie's birth.
Diana's siblings were among the first to know that Archie had been born-receiving the news several hours before the public learned that Meghan was in labor. And when Meghan celebrated her first Mother's Day, just days after Archie arrived, she posed with her newborn in front of a field of forget-me-nots, Princess Diana's favorite flowers.
"Paying tribute to all mothers today-past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered," the caption read. "We honor and celebrate each and every one of you... This is the first Mother’s Day for The Duchess of Sussex."
