The Riverview Plaza in St. Clair is gaining another sweet treat spot for the summer season.

The Sweet Tooth of Marine City is expanding into St. Clair. Owners Todd Pittiglio-May and Chris May-Pittiglio said they are excited to open the new storefront and are aiming to have it opened by Memorial Day weekend. Chris May-Pittiglio will be the main person running the St. Clair location, while Todd Pittiglio-May will hop between there and the Marine City location.

"We knew it was time to expand and they've been trying to get us to come here for a while," Todd Pittiglio-May said. "We're ready for a new challenge."

The Sweet Tooth of St. Clair will be located in the old Blackbird Boutique storefront within the Riverview Plaza, located at 201 North Riverside Ave.

Chris May-Pittiglio said he and Todd wanted to stay within the established Sweet Tooth brand, but also create some differences between the two locations. With the stores being so close to each other, the owners said they didn't want to be in competition with themselves.

"We want this location to have a more boutique feel," Chris May-Pittiglio said.

The owners said the new location will not be as kid-centered as the Marine City location. However, they said part of the Sweet Tooth charm is that they cater to children, which they will still do at the St. Clair location, just in a different way.

Unlike the Marine City location, the upcoming St. Clair store will not be serving ice cream or have a bulk, scoop-your-own candy section. Instead, people will be able to grab pre-packaged bags of their favorite candy. Additionally, the St. Clair location will have a section for an open-air kitchen to create the signature Sweet Tooth homemade chocolates.

The St. Clair location will also be serving coffee and pastries.

The owners are still working out the details for a soft and grand opening. However, Todd Pittiglio-May said they are hoping to give the St. Clair community a sneak peek inside the storefront during the Be a Tourist in Your Own Town event on May 18. He said the store will hopefully be close to opening by that time, so this event would be a nice way to show the community the store's progress.

The owners said they have zero intention to leave the Marine City community.

The Sweet Tooth of Marine City opened in 2009 and is located at 312 South Water St.
