Sweet Senior Cat in NYC Is Hoping for a Loving Foster After His Owner Passed

It's heartbreaking to think about, but there are so many cats out there in need. That includes a senior cat in New York City who was taken into the Puppy Kitty NY City shelter after its owner passed. And now he's so scared and confused.

The little guy's name is Merv and he's one of so many animals out there that need a fur-ever home.

One of the animal shelter workers from the shelter held the little guy in her arms as she introduced Merv to the internet and asked for help in getting him a permanent placement.

"This is Merv," she said. "He's a senior whose owner has died, leaving him behind. He really could use a foster home," she said in the clip.

Merv was twisting to get out of the woman's arms. We can only imagine that he's so uncomfortable in a new environment. The woman shared that Merv will be going to the veterinarian later that week "and then he'll be ready for a foster or new forever home."

"Can we try and find Merv the perfect home?" the caption reads. "He's scared and confused and he deserves to spend his golden years with the perfect person to give him all the love!"

People in the commenters section were heartbroken on Merv's behalf. "Not only is he grieving his owner, but grieving his home," one commenter pointed out. "Please universe, be kind with him and find him a sweet home soon," someone else added. "Just adopted a senior cat whose owner died and now he’s the love of my life," a third person shared.

How to Support Animals at Puppy Kitty NY City

If adopting is not in the equation right now, there are other ways you can help Puppy Kitty NY City. The organization has several other ways to pitch in — like volunteering! Volunteers in the New York City area can sign up for a three hour morning or evening shift, where they'll be responsible for feeding animals, changing their litter, and cleaning up the rescue space.

Puppy Kitty also needs drivers for their Kitty Caravan. Drivers will take animals to and from their veterinarian appointments, adopters, fosters, and TNR sites.

You can also volunteer to do admin work for the organization. While office work might not seem glamorous, it is a remote job that can be one from the comfort of your own home.

Raising awareness and making a donation can also be helpful.  There are so many ways any of us can lend a hand.
