The Sweet Princess Diana Tribute in Harry and Meghan's Pride Post

  • Their Instagram collage features a picture of Princess Diana, highlighting the incredible work Prince Harry's mom did for the LGBTQ+ community.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are showing their support for LGBTQ+ rights during Pride Month, and that includes highlighting the amazing work Princess Diana did during her life.

Per Harper's BAZAAR UK, Harry and Meghan featured a photo of Princess Diana "meeting one of the patients at Aids hospice London Lighthouse." The photo captures a particularly important moment in Diana's advocacy, with the publication noting that, "The historic image was taken in October 1996, less than a year before her death, and demonstrates how the late royal used her global platform to challenge the social stigma surrounding HIV and AIDS."

As the BBC noted in 2017, Princess Diana helped to change attitudes when she opened the U.K.'s first HIV/AIDS unit at London Middlesex Hospital in 1987. Helping to dispel myths regarding how AIDS was contracted, Princess Diana didn't wear gloves when she shook hands with patients with the condition. As a result, she brought a global awareness to HIV/AIDS and started to break down the stigma surrounding the condition.

Prince Harry continues the work his mother was committed to, by placing LGBTQ+ rights at the forefront of his work. In the post, Meghan and Harry wrote:
