Attention 'Sweet Magnolias' Fans! Filming for Season 4 Has Officially Started

A life without Sweet Magnolias is a sad life indeed. We're grateful that this isn't a circumstance we have to consider, though, because there are three jaw-dropping seasons available to watch on Netflix right now. And a fourth season is on the way!
We know, it's been a while since we got new episodes, with season three airing in July of 2023. But for what it's worth, we now have official confirmation that filming for the fourth season has started, which just means that we'll be able to catch up on everything happening in the town of Serenity with our beloved characters before we know it.
Those of us who have completed season 3 know that we were, yet again, left with even more questions. We should've seen that coming, but now we're asking: What will happen in Sweet Magnolias season 4? And when will it premiere? Read on for everything we know about the future of the show!
Will there be a season 4 of Sweet Magnolias?
Yes! It feels so good to say that, too. On October 19, Netflix confirmed that Sweet Magnolias would be returning for season 4. This was a smart move on Netflix's part, considering that Sweet Magnolias was number 1 on the streamer's "Top 10" list for some time!
When will season 4 of Sweet Magnolias premiere?
Right now, we don't know! We'll have to wait for Netflix to announce an official premiere date.
However, we do know (as of late February) that the show has officially begun filming. Sweet Magnolia director Norman Buckley shared the update on Instagram with a series of behind-the-scenes photos of himself and other crew members.
"First day of shooting on #SweetMagnolias season 4," he captioned the post. "Showrunner Sheryl Anderson, writers Anthony Epling and Sara Jumel, executive producer Dan Paulson and co-excutive producer Matt Drake, and me with director of our first block Lauren Petzke."
While photos of cast members were not included in this round of photos, we're excited to get our first look of that, too... whenever that may be!
What will season 4 of Sweet Magnolias be about?
Oh, we're in for it, apparently. In a brief interview with Tudum, showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson (who will be returning to her duties for season 4) gave us a little more insight on what this upcoming season will entail.
According to Anderson, we can expect to examine "the twists and turns of romance, the complexity of friendship, the surprises that pop up in life, and how all these things make us more grateful for the people who love us, the people who fight for — and with — us, and the people who can make us laugh, whatever we’re going through.”
Okay, this pretty much sounds like we'll be picking up right where we left off. If you remember, there were *so* many loose ends in regards to the many different romances. (Talk about messy!) Not to mention the secrets being kept! (Is anyone going to tell Bill that he's Isaac's real dad?) Plus, this last season was the first time we've ever really seen our three leading ladies—Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen—at odds with one another. So, it's great to hear that this will all be explored in the coming season!
