Sweet Little Boy’s Bedtime Ritual With His Cat Is Melting Hearts

If you have a toddler at home, you know how crazy bedtime and trying to get them to sleep can be. But not at Bobby's house! Bobby is an adorable little boy who has a cat named Freddy that he loves like a sibling. Freddy loves Bobby right back, and the two of them have an incredible friendship. Bobby's mom shared a video in April of the pair's bedtime ritual, and it will melt your heart.

It starts with Bobby telling Freddy how much he loves him. He's hugging the cat, and the cat enjoys some belly rubs. Freddy is so patient with the little boy, and even sticks around for some bedtime stories. Make sure your sound is on so you can hear Bobby's sweet little voice!

I could watch this over and over again! Freddy and Bobby have such an incredible bond, and it's clear that they both love each other unconditionally. Viewers loved the sweet video too and left more than a thousand comments about it. @Stacy C pointed out, "Between the tummy rubs AND touching of the back paws? Freddy trusts this child completely." and @shanti.moon added, "This couldn't be any cuter! So darling to watch. How lovely, showing love for Freddy & getting comfortable with books & reading. Goodonya parents, bringing up a special boy."

Is Your Child Ready for a Pet?

As another commenter pointed out, "So proud of this boy. He is so gentle with Freddy. Children are normally way too rough towards animals. This child is a sweetheart!" When my kids were little, they loved our West Highland Terriers but even though they didn't mean to, sometimes they could accidentally be too rough with them. So how do you know that your child is ready for a pet?

If your child hasn't been around family pets from the day you brought them home from the hospital, they may not have a lot of experience with animals. In this case, you may want to start with a pet that doesn't require a whole lot of maintenance, a pet fish for example. It's a great way to practice caring for something (feeding, cleaning that tank or fishbowl, etc.) before moving on to a cat or dog.

Pet hamsters and turtles are another good starter pet since kids can hold them and interact with them, and in turn learn how to handle them gently and lovingly. They also require more maintenance and care than fish do, and once a child learns how much 'work' it is to have a pet, they may change their minds about wanting one, especially if they're the primary caregiver to the animal.

Another way to figure out if your child is ready to care for a pet of their own is to spend time with a friend or family member who already has a pet. If you're considering a dog, find a dog to introduce them to. Your child can hang out with the pet, learn what day-to-day care looks like, and you'll be both be able to gauge whether a pet is right for you.
