This Swedish-Iranian Musician Was the Breakout Star of the CVFF Awards
Swedish-Iranian artist Snoh Aalegra’s style usually reflects her smooth R&B sound—just take the black-and-white cover of her sophomore album from earlier this year, titled Ugh, Those Feels Again, where she looks like a modern-day Sade. For the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards on Monday evening in New York City, though, she went in a more frothy direction thanks to Pyer Moss designer Kerby Jean-Raymond, who was also her date for the night.
Jean-Raymond initially stumbled across Aalegra’s music a few years ago—the first song of hers that he heard was “Under the Influence”—but his respect for Aalegra goes even beyond her songwriting capabilities. “She pours herself and her resources into doing the most epic shows and videos possible,” Jean-Raymond says. “There’s an additional level of care that she puts into creating the world around her music, and I love that.”
Aalegra’s been a fan of Pyer Moss for a while now too. “There’s a beautiful warmth about his collections,” she says, and that’s certainly true of the dress that she gravitated towards for the CVFF celebration: she attended the awards in a baby pink pleated gown that required two people to help her slip into (and out of). “The dress made me feel powerful and regal,” she says of her decision-making process. Jean-Raymond breaks down his reasoning a little differently when asked the same question: “Because she looks great in everything.” That might be true, but there’s something especially captivating about Aalegra in that pink pleated number—see for yourself in the exclusive photo diary that she’s shared, below.
