Few beauty discoveries excite me more than noticing a celebrity relies on a relatively affordable skincare product. Megan Fox, for instance, keeps a $20 body cream at her bedside, as evidenced in the background of a recent Instagram post. The Hempz Original Body Moisturizer is a highly hydrating, ultra-lightweight lotion that leaves skin soft, supple, and subtly scented with a fresh, slightly zesty, naturally derived fragrance.
As its title suggests, hemp seed oil is the key ingredient in the Hempz lotion. Rich in omega fatty acids, hemp oil, derived from its namesake plant, is a THC-free extract hailed for its anti-inflammatory and humectant (moisture-attracting) qualities, which soothe and soften skin.
Additionally, the lotion contains vitamin C, which fades hyperpigmentation and evens skin tone; vitamin A, which smooths fine lines and delivers a firmer texture; and vitamin E, an antioxidant that thwarts agers in the environment and simultaneously softens rough, dry skin. Shea butter, an emollient, is also present in the formula, and provides instant suppleness. I’ve tried the Hempz lotion a few times throughout my eight years of testing beauty products, and despite my aversion to the slickness inherent to many formulas, find Hempz tolerable, texturally. Incidentally, the lightweight, fast-absorbing formula is particularly ideal for the sweaty summer months ahead, as it’s breathable and entirely non-occlusive. Furthermore, the lotion has proven soothing on my itchy, flaky limbs in the colder months, too.
Shoppers are similarly impressed by the lotion’s feather-light feel and the intense hydration it provides. One reviewer cited “no oily feeling,” fast absorption, and a skin-softening finish “like no other lotion” they’ve used.
