Swae Lee Goes Full On Hip Hop Cowboy

See Swae Lee take on the Western trend in an embroidered suit.

For the past few years, some of hip hop’s most fashion-forward artists have turned towards rock’n’roll style for inspiration. Young Thug frequently flaunts the kind of extravagant frock coats that would look right at home on the glam rock stars of yesteryear (he even proclaims himself to be a rockstar); Lil Uzi Vert has the emo end of the spectrum covered; and Migos will sport floral button downs that one could imagine Mick Jagger wearing in his heyday.

Though if Swae Lee's Instagram is anything to go by, then cowboys might be the new go-to sartorial spirit guides for rappers. The Rae Sremmurd MC has had a thing for western style for some time—he performed on The Tonight Show earlier this year in a gallon hat and a pair of steel-toed boots—and his latest look proves he is fully committed to the idea beyond the classic cowboy accessories.

Lee posed for a selfie on the streets of Los Angeles yesterday in a black-and-white embroidered suit, the pants of which are adorned with illustrations of small guitars on the pockets, and a pair of slick cowboy boots. He's not the first to jump on the proverbial bandwagon either. Post Malone’s Western-tinged ensembles are quickly turning him into an unexpected red carpet standout—the bright red nudie suit he wore over the weekend is a good example. Wild West Americana may seem like a passing fad for some, but it’s clearly more than a phase for rappers like Lee and Post Malone—they're in it for the long haul.
