Susan Fang RTW Fall 2023

Susan Fang knows a few things about creating Instagram-worthy moments. For her fall 2023 show, the London- and Shanghai-based designer covered the venue in dried rose petals and sent down the runway dresses that exuded mists and adorable children in her debut kidswear offering.

She embedded her delicate beaded ribbon dresses with custom misting tentacles adapted from sprinklers, made possible with assistance from her father, who works in the fire safety equipment business in China, to create this illusion that her models were walking on air. The mists were blended with rose essence, and the scent permeated the space as the show went on.

The designer also expanded her collection beyond fairy dresses and 3D printed bags to include knitted tops with heart-shaped eyelet patterns, quilted puffers, and shirts and loungewear-inspired pieces made of lace fabric developed in-house in the shapes of the Smiley face, clover, and a butterfly.

The idea of a kidswear line came from the success she saw in her Chinese New Year capsule with Zara, where kidswear was all sold out, and “it’s also a nice time to introduce children’s wear because children are our future,” the designer said.

Her debut kids’ offering included miniature puffers, frill skirts, and pajama dresses in watercolor prints.
