New Survey Reveals the States With the Most Spoiled Dogs for 'National Love Your Pet Day'

There are many different ways to spoil your dog. You can let them sleep in your bed, or you can buy them a diamond encrusted dog collar. Some dog owners consider giving their dog a treat after they do their business outside spoiling them, while others hire dog nannies to travel with their dogs when they are on vacation.

But which states rank the highest in going all out for their canine companions?

According to Forbes Advisor, who released a study they conducted for National Love Your Pet Day on February 20, here are where the most spoiled fur babies live in the United States.

Florida ranks at the top of the list. The Sunshine State has the highest percentage of dog owners who spend more money on their dog’s health and grooming than they do on their own (66.5%). Dog owners in Florida are second most likely to pamper their pooches by pushing them in a stroller (43.5%) and putting perfume or cologne on them (34%).

Now the next time I visit Florida I'm going to ask if I can smell every dog I see riding in a stroller.

Alaska ranks second for most pampered pooches. Nearly half of dog owners in Alaska (49%) regularly throw birthday parties or other celebrations for their dog, the third highest amount.

Next on the list is Washington. The Forbes survey found Washington dog owners don’t like to leave their four-legged friends behind when they go on a trip. More than three-fifths of dog owners (61%) have brought their pooch on vacation, the highest amount nationwide.

Next Up? Colorado, where half of all dog owners in Colorado reported spending more money on their dog’s health and grooming than they do on their own (the 10th highest amount).

The rest of the top ten list pans out with California, New Jersey, Illinois, Texas, Delaware and Virginia.

Ideas To Spoil Your Pet For 'National Love Your Pet Day'

I think in most pet owner's homes, every day is love your pet day, but if you are looking for some fun ideas to celebrate on February 20, try one or all of the following!

Stage a special photoshoot with your pet. Whether you are snapping selfies or hiring a professional, commemorate the love you have for your fur baby by having a photo session.

Bake your baby a special treat. There are tons of dog friendly treat recipes out there and you can head into the kitchen and whip up something delicious for your dog.

Build your cat their very own catio! So this only works if you are one of those handy type people, but you can always hire a professional to do the work for you. That way your cat can go outside and you don't have to worry about them getting hit by a car or eating all the neighborhood birds.

Give them some extra cuddles. Sometimes easy is best. Grab snacks for the two of you, your favorite blanket to cuddle up with on the sofa, and just spend part of the day telling them what a good boy or girl they are. Sounds like a great way to spend National Love Your Pet Day to me!
