While you were busy watching the official return of Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi, you probably missed that Mark Hamill actually had a second role in the film. That’s right, while The Last Jedi was riddled with cameos by celebrity Star Wars fans, from Princes William and Harry to Baby Driver director Edgar Wright to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, one of the most surprising cameos actually comes from one of the franchise’s major players.

While Mark Hamill spends the majority of his time on-screen as the recluse Jedi Master, the actor — who has also had a very successful career as a voice actor, most notably voicing The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series — also reportedly voiced the role of Dobbu Scay. The revelation came about in a post-screening Q&A with Hamill, director Rian Johnson, and various members of the Last Jedi crew.

When asked about the surprise second role in The Last Jedi, Mark Hamill attempted to pull a Jedi mind trick — à la Sir Alec Guinness’s Obi-Wan Kenobi.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said, before adding, “I’m not telling. I like playing the mystery of it all.”

Hamill then revealed that his cameo came to be when he asked Johnson for the opportunity. “I said I’d love to do a CGI thing, and he said sure,” said Hamill. “And I got to go to the set of the casino and see in detail 150 extras in jaw-dropping costumes.”

As for how Dobbu Scay himself came be to be, while Hamill thought the name choice was an attempt to “come up with a name goofier than Dooku” — name-checking the Sith lord played by Sir Christopher Lee in the prequels — Johnson revealed the name actually came from longtime Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hildago. The director said that Hildago named Dobbu Scay as an anagram for Bob Duscay, The Last Jedi’s editor.

If you were too captivated by Hamill’s performance as Luke to notice his surprise second character the first time around, keep your eyes (and ears) out for Dobbu Scay and all the other secret cameos during your second, third, and fourth time seeing The Last Jedi.
