Get ready for massive summer sales — all your favorite stores have tons of overstock
What a difference a year makes. The summer of 2021 was all about unprecedented, pandemic-related supply chain issues, skyrocketing prices and constant delivery delays.
But the summer of 2022 is a completely different story. Right now, major retailers like Walmart, Target, Macy’s, Amazon and Best Buy are stocked with a cumulative $45 billion in excess inventory from orders placed during the height of demand.
“At the beginning of the year, retailers were expecting consumer shopping to bounce back, but the Omicron variant delayed a lot of the recovery that retailers were hoping for,” says Kristen Gall, shopping and retail expert for Rakuten, to Yahoo Life.
Considering inflation is the highest it's been since 1981, people aren’t shopping as much, but stores still need to sell their overstock. That’s good news for consumers — it means serious savings events are upon us!
