Surfing Literal Mud Barrels with Dane Reynolds and Friends (Video)

It was a dreary winter in California.

Back-to-back atmospheric rivers flowed through the Golden State, slashing previous rainfall records, keeping snow mountains open into the start of summer, and chipping away at that gargantuan drought.

As for surfing in the rain, and subsequent runoff, well, some stayed away; some didn’t.

The clip above comes from Chapter 11 TV, the YouTube channel featuring Dane Reynolds and friends, dropping videos semi-frequently (more so, just whenever they feel like it).

Captioning the video, they wrote:

“Everyone got sick.

“Dane, Matt McCabe, Jake Kelley, Micky Clarke, K-bone, Josiah Amico, Andrew Jacobson, Mikey Wright, Lungi Slabb.”

And, yeah, it shows a session from March 7th, likely at some rivermouth wave in the Ventura area, in some extremely muddy waters. There’s literal bushes flowing out into the lineup. The water is tinged a caramel brown from the outpouring sediment.

While surfing in the rain is often ill-advised by health professionals – due to the potential for infections – when the waves are good, it’s hard to stay away.

Commenting on the video, one viewer wrote:

“Ear infection just by watching the clip.”

Worth it?
