On Friday, we reported that the "world’s longest ride, biggest barrel, and largest man-made wave pool" is coming to Abu Dhabi. Naturally, 11-time world champ Kelly Slater is the face of it.

Surf Abu Dhabi is powered by the Kelly Slater Wave Company, the same technology behind Slater's Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California. It was developed by Modon Properties and is located on Hudayriyat Island.

The wave pool also launched its new Instagram profile yesterday and just posted a clip of Slater surfing the epic wave.

Surf Abu Dhabi captioned the post above:

"I’ve surfed hundreds of incredible waves across the world and this wave in Abu Dhabi stacks up well against some of the best waves on earth.” Kelly Slater"

Its Instagram bio reads:

"Coming soon... The world's best surf experience, created in collaboration with @KellySLater #KSWC #inAbuDhabi. Developed & managed by @ModonProperties"

Slater made the announcement this afternoon in his personal Instagram story.

Current world champ Filipe Toledo dropped a clue earlier today as well, posting the photo below of himself, Slater, and former world champ Gabriel Medina. Toledo's social media trail showed the trio traveled to Abu Dhabi to test the wave pool.

According to the press release:

"Set to open by the end of 2023, Surf Abu Dhabi will be the biggest and most advanced artificial wave facility in the world.

"Designed in partnership with Kelly Slater Wave Co., the landmark destination will offer a high-performance surfing experience, featuring the world’s longest ride, biggest barrel, and largest man-made wave pool.

"Underscoring Abu Dhabi’s sporting and leisure credentials, the exclusive surfing complex seeks to attract everyone from beginners to pro-surfers.

"Surf Abu Dhabi will provide an ideal location to host major international events and will play a major role in developing the surfing community locally, regionally, and globally."

As Slater said in his post, more to come over the next few days.
