Surfers at Australia's Bondi Beach Get to 'Rip and Return' Shared Surfboards
The old catch phrase "sharing is caring" never really applied to surfing.
Surfers certainly don't like to share waves, and sharing boards was never really a thing either. I mean, God forbid a friend or acquaintance dinged your board. Then what? Even if they did the honorable thing and coughed up the cash for ding repair, the board would just never be the same again. Neither would the friendship.
But now, surfers at Bondi Beach in Australia are sharing surfboards with the motto, "rip and return."
The ProjectTV captioned the post above:
"Cam Scott restores old surfboards and leaves them on a fence by the beach in North Bondi, all so everyone can ride a wave."
The foundation of the program is pretty simple.
Surfer Cameron Scott finds old and used surf boards, fixes them up, and makes them rideable. He then posts them up at Bondi Beach secured to the railing with a bungie cord with "North Bondi Share Board" written across the nose. They're they stay, free for anyone to "rip and return."
"I had this weird habit, whenever I see, like, a board on the side of the road, that still had a bit of potential use to it, I'd fix it up," Scott said.
Now, Scott receives donated boards as well.
