Welp Looks Like the Weekend Isn't Releasing a Song About Selena Gomez
UPDATED 12/2/19 2:36PM: Despite previous information that The Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye) was releasing a song about his ex, Selena Gomez, Seventeen has since learned that this is not the case and no song will be released.
The rumors began last week, when someone saw that a song titled "Like Selena" was registered under Abel's name on The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) website. Since then, the listing has been taken down and we have learned that the song doesn't exist.
It's unclear why this mix up happened, and frankly, a little disappointing. It would have been nice to hear The Weeknd sing about his relationship with Selena, especially in light of her recent drama with his other ex, Bella Hadid.
Still though, The Weeknd did release two news songs off his upcoming sixth album over the weekend, and both of them seem to reference Bella. So while Abel may not be singing about one ex, at least we got some tunes about the other.

Not only did it cause a small feud with The Weeknd's other ex, Bella Hadid, earlier this month, but now it seems like Selena is going to have to deal with her old relationship taking center stage again, because Abel may be releasing a song about Sel.
While Selena and Abel broke up over two years ago after dating for ten months, he might finally be ready to sing about it. On Monday, the singer posted an Instagram with the caption, "the fall starts tomorrow night," which many are assuming is an announcement of new music.
It gets even more interesting, though, when you head over to The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) website. On there, you can see that The Weeknd has registered the song title, "Like Selena."
It's hard to imagine what this song would be about other than Abel's ex. It is interesting, though, that The Weeknd isn't releasing a song about his other ex, Bella, whom he dated for much longer. Most likely though, The Weeknd and Sel are on better terms, considering they broke up over two years ago and have had time to heal. Meanwhile, Bella and The Weeknd just ended their most recent reconciliation and he may have felt that the wound was still too raw to release a song about.
Either way, here's hoping "Like Selena" gets released tonight, because now that I know it's coming, I'm not sure how much longer I can wait for it.
