Supreme Is Reviving Nike’s Courtposite Sneaker—And It’s Dropping This Week

After making its reveal in a sneaker haul given to tennis pro Carlos Alvarez in August, the Supreme x Nike Courtposite has now been confirmed for a release this week.

The Courtposite is a tennis sneaker that debuted in 2002 and is now set for a revival through the Supreme collaboration. As the name suggests, the shoe makes use of Nike’s Foamposite technology. First introduced in 1997 for basketball, the synthetic material is molded to create an upper that’s both durable and fits snugly. It proved popular in hoops through it’s use in sneakers such as the Air Foamposite One, Air Penny V, and the Flightposite series—but Foamposite didn’t do as well when it was brought to tennis.

Supreme has a knack for digging up archival Nike sneakers, and its name appears set into the Courtposite’s mold in three different colorways. In addition to the greenish-gold to black gradient given to Alvarez months ago, there’s also a predominantly white pair with scarce red accents and a black version with silver as the secondary color. The Supreme Box Logo takes its place on the tongue, while the insole takes on co-branded marks. Uniting all three variants is a silver midfoot shank.

Although Nike often uses collaborators to help build hype for an archival model’s wider return, it does tend to deviate from that formula with Supreme, as they often revive silhouettes that don’t make any follow-up appearances. Thus there’s no telling if the Courtposite is due for a major comeback or not, even if literal tennis shoes such as the Attack, née Mac Attack, is in the midst of a heavy push right now.

One of the most popular Supreme x Nike collaborations came on the Foamposite One, which arrived in 2014 in two colorways featuring baroque graphics and marked a peak in attention to the New York streetwear brand. Due to the number of people who crowded around the store ahead of the drop, police ordered Supreme to cancel its in-person release and has since avoided them entirely for some of its biggest collaborations. Today, pairs still resale for as much as $1,000 on platforms such as StockX.

The Supreme x Nike Courtposite will release Thursday, Oct. 19, through Supreme’s website and physical stores. At least one of the colorways could also release on Nike’s SNKRS app in the new future, but nothing has been confirmed yet. The retail price also hasn’t been announced yet but will leak by Wednesday at the latest.
