Supino Pizzeria Eastern Market location, damaged by fire, reopens for carryout

Fans of Supino Pizzeria can rejoice. The longtime Eastern Market pizzeria has reopened, almost a year to the day after shuttering because of damage from a second-floor fire.

"It's been a long time coming," starts a message on the restaurant's website announcing that the pizzeria at the corner of Russell Street and East Fisher Service Drive is now open for take-out.

A full grand reopening is expected "hopefully in the next month or so, when our dining room has been fully renovated," the message states.

Supino shut down after it suffered damage from a fire on April 24, 2023.

The fire started in the residential loft atop the restaurant. No one was injured and firefighters doused the blaze.

However, the restaurant suffered water damage, according to an Instagram post.

Supino Pizzeria, owned by Dave Mancini, is known for its thin-crust, red (with sauce) or white (no sauce) pizzas. Its pizzas are offered with toppings such as its house-made Italian sausage to mushrooms, roasted red peppers, smoked ham, and cheeses including smoked gouda, ricotta, and fresh mozzarella. A classic is its Margherita pizza topped with fresh basil and fresh mozzarella. The menu also features appetizers, salads, entrees, and pasta dishes.A second Supino Pizzeria location opened a few years ago in Detroit's New Center on Woodward Avenue. The reopening announcement said the New Center location, which also has dine-in, is now open Monday-Saturday.
