Supermodel Lily Aldridge Takes Sheet Masking Very Seriously

We’re not going to lie to you and say Lily Aldridge looks so amazing because of a few handy makeup tricks. But while the supermodel may be blessed with one-in-a-million genetics, we have to give her props for knowing how to enhance them. For our March issue beauty talk page, we chatted with the Nashville-based beauty on her belly-sheet masking, eyebrow maintenance, and Summit, a new woodsy edition to her fragrance line.

Your eyebrows always look incredible. Are they naturally that full, or do you have a method?
I never used to do anything with them. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve started using a pencil to fill in the gaps and extend the length before brushing up the hairs. Even when I’m not wearing makeup, I’ll still fix my brows.

When you do put on makeup, what goes on the rest of your face?
Say I’m heading out for a date night: I start by moisturizing to prep my skin — sometimes I’ll even throw on a face mask — and then apply Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation. It has a nice amount of coverage and looks really radiant and pretty. Next, I’ll dust Tom Ford bronzer on my cheeks and eyelids for a tonal look and then finish with Marc Jacobs mascara, one of my current obsessions.

You come from a family of models. Who had the biggest impact on your approach to beauty?
My mom [1970s Playboy model Laura Lyons] was definitely the person I went to for advice growing up. She taught me about self-care. I think it’s one of the most important things you can do for yourself, both for inner and outer beauty.

Did you ever “borrow” any of her products?
Her perfume was one of my favorite things to play with as a kid. I took it so often, she bought me a squirt bottle of rose water so I could have my own “perfume” and spray it everywhere.

Does your 7-year-old daughter, Dixie, do the same thing now?
I have a lot of fragrance bottles on my vanity because I love the different shapes and textures. She steals them to make her own little beauty counter and spritzes everyone in our home.

Speaking of scents, tell me about Summit, your second perfume, which recently came out.
It’s meant to re-create the feeling of being in the Smoky Mountains in the wintertime with my family. The experience is all about being cozy, from having a glass of wine by the fire with my husband to making s’mores. I used notes of leather, tobacco, and cinnamon to form a very warm, intoxicating scent. Since it’s cold outside now, I’m wearing it nonstop. But I’ve always been a girl who likes a variety of fragrances. I play off my mood for the day.

Do you switch things up in the rest of your routine?
I went with an all-natural regimen during both my pregnancies and while nursing my two children. I just weaned my baby son, Winston, and it’s opened up a whole new world of beauty products I can introduce back into my life. In general, though, I lean toward natural options such as Tata Harper, a skin-care line I started using while breastfeeding and have continued with because the formulas are fantastic.

You’ve posted about belly-sheet masking on Instagram. Was that a regular part of your pregnancy?
Toward the end of my third trimester with my son, when I was counting the seconds until giving birth, I’d put one sheet mask on my face and another on my bump and watch TV. My daughter thought it was so hilarious! I didn’t do it every day, but whenever I had 20 extra minutes to treat myself, I’d think, “Oh, a sheet mask on my belly? That sounds fun.”
