Superman: Legacy has its main cast locked down, but there’s still one opening left to fill: Superman’s dad, Jor-El.

Kurt Russell has thrown his hat in the ring, however, offering his services to director James Gunn.

"Yeah! Yeah, I'll take on Marlon Brando!" Russell told ComicBook, in reference to the actor who played Jor-El in 1978’s Superman: The Movie.

"I mean there was something awesome about the way he was just looking around – I don't care that he was looking at his lines – he's crazy-great to watch,” continued Russell.

There’s one potential problem, however. Russell has already played someone’s dad in a superhero movie. In 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 he was father to Star-Lord, AKA Ego the Living Planet.

James Gunn also directed that movie, so Russell is keen to continue the relationship. It wouldn’t be the first re-casting, either. Aquaman’s Jason Momoa might play new DC superhero Lobo in an upcoming film.

It’s not confirmed yet, though. Superman might not even have a dad in Superman: Legacy, with Russell stating, "You know what: we don't know a lot about Jor-El. Maybe there's a version... I never heard this, so I don't know. James Gunn was a blast to work with, though, so you never know."
