Universal Studios Hollywood's Super Nintendo World Park Opens February 2023

Update: An official opening date has been announced for Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood. The new theme park — the first Super Nintendo World in the US — will fling its gates open on February 17, less than two months before the theatrical release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The park's main attraction is Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, an AR go-kart simulator that drops riders into the world of Mario Kart with custom racetracks, beloved characters and, of course, dastardly Koopa shells. It'll be the only ride available when the park opens, but Nintendo and Universal Studios tout that it offers enough variety for repeat visits. Though one ride is far from an expansive theme park, the Super Nintendo World in Japan only offers one other ride besides Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, a tranquil-by-comparison experience dubbed Yoshi's Adventure.

Besides the ride, the main selling point of the park is its immersive Nintendo experience. Die-hard fans can purchase a "Power-Up Band" that lets them "unlock" unique interactions with costumed characters and question-mark blocks around the park. There are also interactive binoculars that provide various AR experiences around the park and Toadstool Cafe, an eatery with Nintendo-inspired dishes like the Mario Bacon Cheeseburger and the Piranha Plant Caprese, which, one would assume, comes sans fangs. Last but not least, a wealth of Nintendo merchandise is available at the park's 1-Up Factory shop.

As mentioned above, you'll be able to visit Super Nintendo World beginning February 17. A second park is in the works at Universal Studios' Florida outpost as well, though its opening date has yet to be revealed. Read the original article below for more info on Super Nintendo World Hollywood.

Original Story:Universal Studios Hollywood on Thursday announced that Super Nintendo World will officially open next year. The Los Angeles theme park did not provide a specific opening date, though construction on the video-game-themed sector is already underway in the lower section of the park.

The Hollywood location will mark the second Super Nintendo World to exist under the Universal imprint, following the themed land's Japan opening in 2021. The Los Angeles location will “transport theme park guests and Nintendo fans into the world of Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach to become part of their compelling universe," according to the company. Universal Studios Orlando will also receive a Super Nintendo World at an unspecified date.

The immersive theme park experience is described as “a visual spectacle of vibrant colors and architectural ingenuity located within a newly-expanded area of the theme park, featuring a groundbreaking ride and interactive areas.” Additionally, Super Nintendo World will feature themed dining options and shopping locations.

Super Nintendo World, which draws inspiration from the gaming giant's plethora of popular franchises, was first thought up through a partnership between Universal Creative and Nintendo in May 2015.
