Super Mom Maren Morris Introduced Her Son to Drag Queens & Dared Tennessee to Arrest Her For It

We are giving Maren Morris a round of applause for a performance on Sunday that was a defiant (and well-deserved) middle finger to the right-wing state legislators in Tennessee who are working to restrict LGBTQ+ rights. They have already banned drag shows where children could be present and banned gender-affirming care for transgender teens, all in the name of “protecting” children.

Give me a break. This has nothing to do with protecting children and everything to do with homophobia. Because, newsflash: Drag queens aren’t a threat to children and when children lack access to gender-affirming care, there can be fatal consequences.

Well, Morris — who Fox News dubbed the “lunatic country music person” after she condemned country music star Jason Aldean’s wife for her transphobic comments — is not having any of it.

The “lunatic” performed with Hayley Williams, Hozier, Sheryl Crow, Jason Isbell, and a choir of drag queens at Nashville’s Love Rising benefit concert which raised money for four Tennessee organizations that are fighting the legislative attacks against the LGBTQ+ community. Because guess what? This is just the beginning. There are also bills in the works that will target the personhood of trans adults and that would force drag queens to register as “adult cabaret performers” to be able to work. (Far away from a school, of course!)

During her performance, Morris took a moment to tell the legislators who support these measures something that probably had them shaking in their boots.

“And yes, I introduced my son to some drag queens today,” she said.

Oh no! But drag queens are such a danger to children! And Morris has a toddler who will probably be scarred for life or become gay by proximity. *Eye roll*

“So Tennessee, f*ckin’ arrest me,” she said, to which the crowd went wild.

Morris told Variety that she brought her son — who is turning 3 years old this week — to the show’s soundcheck earlier that day.

“[W]e got to go in the room where all the queens were getting ready and doing their makeup,” she said. “And he freaked out when he went in there because it’s just magic what drag queens do. There’s wigs everywhere, and the smell of hairspray and wig glue; there’s glitter; everyone’s in a good mood.”

“It’s just like a room of love,” she continued. “And we went back to my dressing room and my son is like, ‘I need the queens!’ I’m like, ‘Uh, you’re looking at her?'”

For that, and for Morris’ ongoing allyship, we give her a standing ovation.

These celeb parents are so proud of their LGBTQ kids.
