Every woman might consider having a wig as a must-have beauty tool in her collection at some point. From ancient Egypt to the contemporary era, wigs have proven their enduring value as versatile hairpieces catering to all genders and identities. They offer the freedom to experiment with a spectrum of colors, diverse lengths, chic shapes, and distinctive styles—a safer alternative to subjecting your natural strands to constant styling. Fortunately, in today’s market, various companies, such as Luvme Hair, provide a wide array of these beauty units.

Selecting the right wig is essential. With numerous wig vendors offering various styles and hair types, ranging from synthetic to human hair blends, the choices can be overwhelming. Opt for Kanekalon synthetic hair if you desire a braided wig. For those seeking versatility with heat styling tools, such as curling, blowouts, or straightening, a human hair wig is the preferred option. In 2014, Luvme Hair emerged with a revolutionary concept—delivering natural-looking, low-maintenance, easy-to-install, high-quality units that offer an alternative to time-consuming extension sew-ins and bulky wigs that often resemble costumes rather than everyday hairpieces.

As an aficionado of wigs and a seasoned beauty expert with a decade of editorial experience, I can confidently say that I possess a keen eye for discerning quality wigs. Throughout the past decade, I’ve observed the evolution of the industry, witnessing the transition from full-weft wigs to the introduction of silk top wigs, and the subsequent rise of mass-produced lace closures, lace frontals, and 360 HD lace wigs. The wig industry remains dynamic, ceaselessly innovating to enhance accessibility and realism—a commendable feat. In my role as a wig reviewer, I’ve developed a comprehensive 5-step evaluation system for both the wig company and the hairpiece. This entails scrutinizing the wig cap (considering size and construction), assessing the lace and knots (evaluating flexibility and visual prominence), examining color blending, gauging hair density, and thoroughly appraising the quality of the hair and the overall wig. This approach considers factors such as shedding, blending, curling, straightening, texture, and scent.

Luvme Hair was kind enough to send me some units to review so follow along and see just how much I liked this brand.

This unit was titled and described as a 100% Human Hair “Glueless” Body Wave Wig with a 7×6 HD lace closure. I ordered it at a 20-inch length, black/natural hair color, medium cap size of about 22.5 inches, and the highest density of hair at 180 percent. which speaks to how full the wig will be.

Density:

Personally, I prefer wigs with a density exceeding 180 percent, as that’s a standard option in the market. Customization is key when it comes to wigs, tailoring them to match the client’s facial features and preferences upon receipt. Based on my experience, opting for a wig with a substantial density of around 200 percent or more is advisable. This higher density provides more versatility during styling, as some shearing is likely to occur. Since shedding is a common occurrence with wigs, choosing a unit with a lower density means being cautious about excessive manipulation to avoid shedding excess hair, especially when the unit can’t tolerate such handling.

While I initially had reservations about the available density options, receiving the wig proved pleasantly surprising as it turned out to be exceptionally beautiful. I did end up cutting even more layers in it, so it is on the thinner side. The longevity of this piece remains uncertain due to the alterations, so its durability will become evident over time.

Cap:

Looking at the cap, this was my first time working with this newer breathable design Typically, I entrust the care of all my wigs to my hairstylist, Orlando Palmer, at the Noël New York Salon & Boutique. Having a professional handle the detailing ensures longevity for your wigs, making them easy to slip on and off while achieving the desired style and fit. Orlando, upon inspecting the wig, immediately appreciated the cap construction, which was a novel feature for both of us. He noted that, given the volume of my natural hair, he often finds standard wig caps too small. However, he expressed satisfaction with this construction, as it provides more room and versatility.

This cap did come with an elastic band already sewn into the wig, however, the wig is a little big on my head. Despite adjusting the elastic band to its maximum tightness, it remains a bit looser than my preference. In future wig orders, I am inclined to choose a smaller cap size for a better fit.

Lace:

This is a 7×6-inch closure wig which is a newer offering on the market. Usually, standard closure size is 4×4-inch or 5×5-inch but as I stated earlier, the wig market is always innovating and improving their designs. I usually like frontal wigs, which means the entire front of the wig is lace and no weft is added. Closures are not my favorite but this 7×6-inch closure is so wide that it acts very close to a full frontal unit which I adore.

The HD lace on this unit, which is the only type of lace I order, is very thin and flexible which is a good thing. You want the material to be unnoticeable which calls for it to be thin. However, the lace knots still needed to be bleached which I had my stylist do. Lace knots tend to be subtly visible, regardless of the lace type chosen. Many individuals often attempt to conceal these knots using makeup, such as concealer, powder, or foundation, to create a more scalp-like appearance. However, in my opinion, a more effective approach is to opt for knot bleaching. I refrain from using makeup on my wigs or the lace. Bleaching the knots typically results in the lace blending seamlessly with my skin tone, eliminating the need for additional cosmetic enhancements.

Color Blend:

The shade of this piece was a natural black. Typically, when I order a natural black color, I tend to dye it jet black or opt for a blue/black hue for a more potent color. However, I chose not to dye this unit, and surprisingly, I’m content with that decision. It imparts a slightly more natural appearance to the unit, which I find appealing.

Overall Wig:

In general, the wig is pleasant. I haven’t encountered significant shedding so far, but it’s only been a few days since I started wearing it. The wig has a good feel, a pleasant scent, and responds well to styling products and heat tools. Some of the initial tighter curls have fallen, and while I’m hesitant to add more to avoid excessive manipulation due to the wig’s thinness, overall, it has been cool.

Water Wave 13×4 Frontal HD Lace Glueless Free Part Long Wig

This unit is titled and described as a 100 percent Human Hair Glueless Water Wave Wig with a 13×4 Frontal HD Lace. I ordered it at a 20-inch length, black/natural hair color, large cap size of about 23.5 inches, and the highest density of hair at 150 percent.

Density:

This wig features tight curls, and for curly hair to appear natural and attractive, it typically requires a fuller density. Therefore, the 150 percent density doesn’t align with my preference, although it might be the standard for LuvMe Hair. The brand is dedicated to creating natural-looking, easy-to-install wigs, and I acknowledge that this approach may involve a more moderate amount of hair on each wig so I understand.

Cap:

The cap design of this wig follows a more traditional style, featuring a full frontal lace with the middle to the back of the wig weft onto a cap. Inside, there are four combs, one sewn-in elastic, and two traditional small strap elastic bands positioned at the base of the wig. The inclusion of two elastic bands in this unit contributes to a snugger fit compared to the first wig, enhancing the overall sense of security.

Lace:

Handling frontal wigs requires delicate care to prevent any damage to the lace. Although my hair stylist has not yet bleached the knots on this wig, it’s a necessary step. I’ve observed that when the knots remain unbleached, the parting on the wig doesn’t appear as defined as it could. Some individuals might use makeup as a concealer on the part to enhance its visibility, but that’s not my preferred approach.

Color Blend:

This wig comes in a natural color, which is black, and I am content with it. I currently have no plans to dye the wig in a different color.

Overall Wig:

When I first took this piece out of the box I thought I would hate it because it’s on the shorter side but I have grown to love it. The wig features a consistently shoulder-length cut, and its curly texture adds a charming touch. To maintain that youthful, bouncy look akin to Curly Sue, it just needs to remain full. So far, I haven’t noticed any shedding, but I’ve only been gently running my hands through it rather than using a comb or brush. I hope to maintain this condition.
