Timothee Chalamet stars in a new Cadillac advert that pays tribute to Tim Burton’s classic film, Edward Scissorhands.

The Call Me By Your Name star appears as Edgar Scissorhands in the TV spot, promoting Cadillac’s Super Cruise hands-free driving feature.

Like the original character, Chalamet stars as a young man with scissors for hands. Winona Ryder, who played Kim in the 1990 movie, plays his mother.

The ad even uses the film theme composed by Danny Elfman.

While Edgar is clearly brilliant at making salad, his creativity is stifled by his boss. He struggles with American football and can’t text to save his life. He’s also a liability on the bus.

He is able to drive using a virtual reality headset, which gives his mum an idea. She gives him a Cadillac Lyriq, which Edgar can set to “Super Cruise”.

“This is the story of a boy with scissors for hands,” Ryder’s Kim says in voiceover. “No, not that one.”

Ryder told Variety that she wanted to reprise her role as Kim in the commercial because she “loved the idea of working with Timothée, and the fact that it was an electric car was important too”.

“It was pretty surreal to have Timothée play my son, Edgar,” she added. “Timothée is an incredible guy — so talented and sweet. I felt a pretty instant bond with him.”

The advert concludes with her voiceover: “And Edgar drove off into the sunset... But don’t worry, he still makes it home in time for dinner — occasionally.”
