Who Is Sunrise Coigney, Mark Ruffalo’s Wife of 24 Years?
We may know Mark Ruffalo from cult-classic romantic comedies 13 Going on 30, Rumor Has It …, and Just Like Heaven, but it’s his own love life that is the real rom-com. The actor has been married for 24 years to Sunrise Coigney, a fellow actor he met in 1998.
As the Avengers star tells it, it was love at first sight. “I saw her and was like, ‘I’m going to marry that girl,’” he told Men’s Journal in 2017.

Who is she?
Coigney was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on September 17, 1972, but has lived all over. She met Ruffalo in Los Angeles, and the two now live in Upstate New York.
Coigney did modeling for several years, and then, like her husband, went into acting. She has a few movies under her belt: Campfire Stories (2001), 100 Centre Street (2001), and In the Cut (2003). She also starred in a series, Line of Fire, from 2003 until 2005.
After stepping away from acting to grow her family, Coigney opened up an artisanal home decor boutique, called Sunny’s Callicoon Pop, in Callicoon, New York. The shop opened in 2017, and in 2023, Coigney decided to close its doors, with the hope of bringing it back one day.
How did she and Mark meet?
They literally met on the street one day, in Los Angeles, in 1998.
“All I had was my decency, wit and charm—I didn’t have anything,” Ruffalo told Men’s Journal in 2017. “When I met her, she was like, ‘You don’t have a driver’s license, you don’t have a credit card. What is wrong with you, dude? I can’t be with you!’ I was living in a converted garage, and she was there for that, she was game. She believed in me. She was like, ‘I know you’re a really good actor,’ and I was like, ‘You haven’t really seen me act yet.’ And she was like, ‘I just know it, I can tell.’”
Soon, they started dating.
“I was living in a dump and didn’t even have a driver’s license or a credit card,” Ruffalo told Closer Weekly in 2014. “She thought I was a mess, but she believed in me and kept encouraging me. I don’t know if I would have made it without her.”
Eventually, things between them got serious, Ruffalo became more successful, and they bought a house together in Callicoon, where they still live.
The couple married in June 2000.
Do they have kids?
Yes! The pair have three adult children together: Keen, Bella Noche, and Odette. They are all quite close, and recently celebrated Ruffalo getting his star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame:
Speaking about why she left acting to raise her children, Coigney told WWD in 2017, shortly after filming her last project: “I had a woman once tell me, ‘You know, Sunrise, you'll always get a second chance at your career, but you'll never get a second chance with your children.’”
What has Mark said about her?
Ruffalo has gushed about Coigney plenty over the years, both in interviews and on social media. Most recently, last June, he shared a loving tribute to her on Instagram to mark their 23rd wedding anniversary.
“Happy 23 years, my friend, my partner, my lover,” he wrote alongside a throwback black-and-white photo from their wedding. “Everything beautiful in our lives comes from you. You also happen to keep this whole shambling enterprise on the rails. I admire you and love you.”
The two also regularly attend red-carpet events together, and look so, so in love, 26 years after they met.
