Sun Valley's Major Enhancement Project Is Taking Shape

Sun Valley Resort, Idaho, is continuing to make progress on the Warm Springs Enhancement Project, a development effort that will bring two new lifts to the resort's Warm Springs base area.

Here's a video documenting the 17th week of the project, which was last week.

To learn more about the project, check out our article detailing the upcoming Warm Springs base area updates.

If you'd like to stay put, though, here's the quick 411.

Sun Valley is replacing the iconic Challenger Quad with a high-speed six-seater that will be 35% faster than its predecessor. As part of this replacement, the resort is completely removing the Greyhawk Quad, whose terrain it'll preserve by including a mid-station on the new Challenger six-seater.

Additionally, the resort is replacing the Flying Squirrel chair, which was lost in a 2014 fire, with a high-speed quad.

Both new chairs depart from the Warm Springs base.

In email correspondence with Powder this week, Stefanie Walters, a PR representative for Sun Valley, provided an update on the construction efforts:

"Last week [August 6th through the 12th] concrete was poured at the operations building, Tower 28, and at the mid-station. Doppelmayr crews continue assembly of both Challenger and Flying Squirrel lifts, installing cross arms, lifting frames, and walkways. The snowmaking top tie-in has been completed. This week the team will be setting shelters and backfilling as well as hauling the Challenger drive machinery to the top of the mountain."

The PR team also provided images of the currently under-construction chairlifts.
