Summer manufacturing camp focuses on outdoor recreation

May 25—MILTON — Milton Manufacturing Makerspace has partnered with Playworld to offer a summer manufacturing camp that engages children in a conversation about outdoor recreation and public spaces.

Supported by the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, Nuts, Bolts, and Thingamajigs Foundation, these one-week intensives will take place over five weeks at Milton Community Center, and focus on grades 6-12.

The camp gives children the chance to think about outdoor public spaces in their community and design their playground. Throughout the week local playgrounds will be explored. There will also be a field trip to Playworld for a behind-the-scenes look at their design and manufacturing departments. The basics of Solidworks CAD software will be taught. And a sculptural model of an imagined space will be created.

The summer program culminates in an exhibition of projects created by the program's participants and will be on view at the Milton YMCA and Milton Municipal Museum.
