Summer class offerings at Holmes Center for the Arts encourage creations of all kinds

Classes and activities offered at the Holmes Center for the Arts during the spring and summer include:

Acrylic Pour/Paint & Sip with Karen Drongowski

Fridays, April 19, May 10, June 7 and July 26, 6-7:30 p.m.; $25 per workshop. This fun and rewarding painting technique provides a great atmosphere in which to relax, let the paint flow and enjoy the experience. A different project each time. Take a beverage of your choice.

Poetry Club, with Jennifer McCluggage

Every first Thursday (except July 4), 3:30-4:30 p.m., suggested $5 donation; take a notebook and a pen. Take a poem − one of your own or another poet’s − to share.

Open Studio Oil Painting

Artists are welcome to join 10 a.m.-noon Saturdays. Take oil painting supplies. These are not lessons, but a time to inspire each other and share tips. A fee of $5 per session will cover the cost of the studio.

Wheel-Throwing Ceramics with Eric Yoder

Thursdays, April 11-May 23, 6:30-8:30 p.m., $150 plus $30 supply fee. Seven-week course for beginners through advanced.

Digital Art with Addie White

Saturdays, April 20 and 27, May 4 and 11, 10:30-11:30 a.m.; $45. Learn the ins and outs of digital art using Procreate on iPad Pro. Students will use different tools and layers and work with the color wheel to make , reproducible artwork.

Art for Adults with Karen Drongowski

Thursdays beginning May 2, noon-1:30, teen through adult, $15. Explore a plethora of art activities. Pay per class.

Fairytale Camp

June 4 and 6 and June 25 and 27, 9-10:30, ages 3-6, $40. Dance with favorite fairytale characters and create art projects.

Cartooning Camp with Dylan Olsen

June 4 and 6, and June 25 and 27, 9-10:30, ages 8-15, $30 per camp. Learn the tricks of the cartooning trade and the proper use of color to create characters. Materials included.

Pennsylvania Dutch Fraktur Design with local artist, Marlea Hershberger-Leinbach

Tuesday, July 9, 6-8 p.m., at the German Culture Museum, 4877 Olde Pump St., Walnut Creek; ages 15-adult, younger with an adult, limit of 15 students; $30. Join Marlea Hershberger-Leinbach as she teaches the Pennsylvania Dutch artform of Fraktur, using ink and watercolor. Included in the $30 price of the class is a dip pen and tips, hot-press paper and ink, as well as a donation to the museum. Take watercolors or borrow at the class. The museum is housed in the lower floor of the Walnut Creek Community Center.

Summer Flowers

Wednesday, July 10, 6-8 p.m., with Marlea Hershberger-Leinbach, $40. Textured oil painting with cold wax medium and collage. Open to beginning and advanced artists, though some experience with oil paints is helpful, 11” x 14” stretched canvas and wax medium will be provided. Take oil paints and palette knives.

Pet Party Camp

July 16 and 18 and July 30 and Aug. 1, 9-10:30, ages 3-6, $40. Kids are invited to take their favorite stuffed pet for this art camp. Kids will dance with their pet and create animal crafts to take home.

Drawing Camp for Kids, Grades K-5, with Karen Drongowski

June 17, 18 and 19, 12-2 p.m., $60. Students will learn great tips for drawing activities and work with a variety of dry media.

Mixed Media Camp for Kids, Grades K-5, with Karen Drongowski

July 23, 24 and 25, 9:30-11:30, $60. Students will explore a wide range of media and techniques, combining them for interesting effects.

Intro to Oil Painting/Pear Still Life, teen-adult, with Jennifer McCluggage

June 18 and 20, 5:30-6:30 p.m. All materials included, $40. Create two studies of a pear, one in gray tones, one in color. Follow step-by-step instructions to learn basic oil painting techniques.

Intro to Oil Painting/Summer Peaches, teen-adult, with Jennifer McCluggage

Tuesdays, July 16 and 23, 5:30-6:30 p.m. All materials included, $40. Create two studies of peaches, one of slices, one of a whole peach. Learn basic color mixing skills while studying shape and value.

Spanish Camp, grades K-6

With Colette Propri and Mary Gilmore, Monday and Wednesday, June 10 and 12, 5-6:30 p.m. $35. Intro to the Spanish language through the food, music and art of the culture.
