Summer camps, programs in San Angelo for 2024, here's how to register

Summer break is upon us, and organizations are opening up summer camp registrations.

For parents left scratching their heads at how to keep their children happy and occupied this summer, here's a list of San Angelo's summer camps and programs to help bust the summer boredom and get the kids off their screens.

Sunset Mall Summer Kids World

When: 2-3 p.m. Tuesdays from June 4-July 30

Sunset Mall will be having its 12th annual free Summer Kids World program consisting of kid-related activities, special guests and prizes. Some of the events' special guests include Angelo State University’s Chemistry Department, Concho Valley Martial Arts Center, San Angelo’s police and fire departments and more. The program will be held in the mall's community room next to Elote Vaz at 4001 Sunset Drive.

The program is for children 12 and younger. Parents are welcome to join. Kids who participate in the program will receive a card with store discounts available for retailers in the mall.

SAMFA Camps

When: June and July

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, 1 Love St., will have summer camps, including Art of Nature, Helping Hands and Artist Workshops. Ages and costs range per workshop. For the full schedule, prices and registration, visit www.samfa.org/camps.

SAISD Athletic Camps

When: all summer

The San Angelo Independent School District will conduct several summer camps for children attending elementary through high school. These camps will include the following sports: baseball, soccer, swimming, tennis, gymnastics, basketball, softball, volleyball and football.

SAISD STEM Kids Camp

When: July 10 or 11, from 8:30 a.m.-3:25 p.m.

The annual summer STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) camp is back. A hands-on opportunity to explore robotics, create their own code or design in the Makerspace this fun camp is open to all currently enrolled SAISD current 2nd-4th graders. The camp is free. Enrollment is a first-come, first-served basis. Parents will be notified of enrollment or waitlist on May 28.

Angelo State University Camps

When: June and July

Angelo State will host seven camps this summer including music camp, cyber camp, nursing discovery camp, code camp and robotics camp.

Prices, age ranges and dates depend on the camp.

Angelo State Athletics Camps

When: all summer

ASU will offer camps throughout the summer for different sports. They range from elementary to high school camps.

Each sports camp can be accessed by sport on the individual website. For soccer go to angelosoccercamps.com, volleyball at bellevolleyballcamps.com , and basketball for girls at bellebasketballcamps.com and angelobasketballcamps.com for boys.

Prep Academy summer classes and camps

When: June 10-Aug. 10

Dance classes and camps will be available at Prep Academy, LLC, 2430 Sherwood Way. All classes, excluding dance teams, are $60 monthly and a $20 registration fee per family. Dancers will experience ballet, tap and jazz dancing in a super fun and encouraging atmosphere. Classes and camps range from ages 6 months old to 18 years old.

Camp Ambleside

When: June 10-Aug. 2

The Ambleside Concho Valley will be having a camp incorporating art, nature, science, music, handwork and living literature from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on June 10- Aug. 2. Ages 5-12 are welcomed to the camp and should bring their own lunch and snacks. The camp is $100 deposit and $100 a week and will be held at 207 N. Main.

Emmanual School of Fine Arts

When: June, July

The Emmanuel School of Fine Arts has summer camps and group classes during the months of June and July in music, art, and Lego Robotics. See the full directory online.
