Summer camp at Boys & Girls Club of SWMO offers something for kids of all ages

JOPLIN, Mo. — The Boys and Girls of Southwest Missouri is getting ready to kick off its summer programs.

This year staff anticipate filling 300 slots for Camp Comingo – the name “Comingo” coming from the street the Boys and Girls Club is on in Joplin.

Kids who have completed kindergarten all the way to 18-years-old will get a chance to enjoy activities like skating, swimming, bowling, and playing in the gym.

And teens will get special visitors from local colleges or volunteer organizations in the community.

Autumn Basye, Director of Operations for the club, hopes to make this year count for each kid.

“Our focus this year, we’re really trying to get sponsors to help us take bigger, better field trips for these kids, because for a lot our kids, this is their Summer. So we really want to make it something they can remember and something special and we really want something fun every day for them,” said Basye.

The camp runs 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, from June 5 through August 9.

It’s $300 per child for the whole summer, and the deadline to apply is June 5, or until all slots have been filled.
