Summer 2024: Where to find free breakfast, lunch for kids in, near Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — School systems across the Greater Baton Rouge area will be giving out free meals to kids this summer.

Schools will serve breakfast and lunch to children under a certain age to help make sure they have a meal during the day throughout the summertime.

IDEA Public Schools in Baton Rouge do not require a child to be registered in their school system to receive a meal. In West Baton Rouge Parish, the child does not have to be a resident to receive a free meal box.

East Baton Rouge Parish

East Baton Rouge Parish Schools

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, East Baton Rouge Parish School System and OneRouge CAFÉ recently announced a program that will run from Tuesday, May 28 to Friday, Aug. 2.

Meals will be available to anyone 18 years and younger Monday through Thursday. The only two days that meals will not be available are Monday, June 17, and Thursday, July 4.

Kids can get free breakfast and lunch through EBRPSS Summer Meals Program

Baker Community Schools

The school system said anyone 18 years old and younger can get a free school meal in the cafeterias of Baker High School and Baker Heights Elementary School.

Breakfast will be served from 7-8 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school from June 3 to July 11.

Breakfast will be served from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. from June 5 to July 11 at the elementary school.

City of Baker students can get free breakfast, lunch meals this summer

IDEA Public Schools

IDEA Public Schools will serve free meals to any child 18 and younger from Tuesday, May 28 to Friday, July 26 at IDEA Bridge or IDEA Innovation. They don’t have to be an IDEA student to receive a free meal, the school system said.

Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Food service will be closed on federal holidays and from July 1 through July 5.

West Baton Rouge Parish

West Baton Rouge Parish School System

WBRPSS will distribute free meal boxes for kids under 18 at Port Allen High School. Each box will have seven breakfasts, seven lunches and one gallon of milk on each distribution day.

Boxes will be given away from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the following days:

  • May 31

  • June 7

  • June 14

  • June 21

  • June 28

The school system said a child does not need to be a resident of West Baton Rouge to get a free meal box. The drive-thru distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis and registration is recommended.
