The Summer 2023 Bangers That’ll Have You Dancing and Singing in Your Underwear

Summer is here and I’m ready for clubbing, sipping margs by the pool, and living my MF best life e-v-e-r. A summer fling? Check. Vacay booked? Of course. Summer playlist? 😅 Maybe I have an older Millennial living inside my Gen-Z body cause I never knew summer is the season of bops. Movies, yes. Songs? Lol, no. But in all seriousness, some of the best bangers of all time have come out during the summer months, or have at least come out late enough in the spring to be the soundtrack to every party of that summer.

So now that I do know that summer is the good music era, I’m gotta get my playlist ready. Hence why I created this handy-dandy playlist of summer hits for clubs, bars, pre-games, or the embarrassing dancing routines you do when no one else is around. Have your phone in hand and get ready to have your life rocked.

“Princess Diana” by Ice Spice ft. Nicki Minaj

Whoever said that “Boys A Liar Pt.2” is a better hit than this cheeky bop is a liar, lol. I mean, to get *THE* Nicki Minaj on a feature is a win in itself. But to also have a badass flow filled with catchy lyrics? 10/10.

“Kill Bill Remix” by SZA ft. Doja Cat

SZA finally delivered after 5ish years, but the wait was worth it because “SOS” is filled with bangers, especially her breakout song “Kill Bill.” My personal fav will always be “Smoking on My Ex Pack” but “Kill Bill” is a close second, followed by the remix version with Doja Cat.

“Flowers” by Miley Cyrus

Miley can really do it all—Disney pop, indie rock, and R&B, but now she’s coming back to her roots with “Flowers.” Allegedly inspired by her breakup with actor Liam Hemsworth, this bop is allll the feels. It’ll get you through those sad summer days, trust.

“Moonlight” Kali Uchis

Ever since I heard “Melting” by Kali Uchis, I’ve been hooked on her sound. The girl has vocals and I love them, especially on “Moonlight.” Her voice is so sensual and ethereal that I *literally* feel like I’m laying on clouds. Definitely a must-listen this summer.

“Lottery” by Latto

The Queen of the South is bringing us hit after hit. Her latest banger features R&B singer Lu Kala, whose vocals are so fresh and peppy. That coupled with Latto’s confidence and smooth flow makes this track the summer song to get up and dance to.

“Unholy” by Sam Smith ft. Kim Petras

Honestly, I feel like anything Sam Smith makes is guaranteed to go viral. But what I really love about this 2022 hit is their experimentation with sound. The usually soulful singer took inspo from other genres including pop and indie rock and created this masterpiece. And yeah, TikTok may have overplayed this song when it first came out, but I know this will be the summer tune we’ll be playing all season.

“A&W” by Lana Del Rey

Lana’s music is more fall vibes than summer, but “A&W” had to be included because the lyrics are so familiar to so many young women. Lana’s voice is haunting and filled with pain that it’s almost as if you can’t not listen to this folk-inspired bluesy single on repeat. This single might not be club or dance material, but it’s a song many will listen to this season.

“Lipstick Lover” by Janelle Monae

Janelle Monáe stays bringing futuristic sounds to our phones. “Lipstick Lover” is Monáe’s second single off her upcoming album, "The Age of Pleasure," and is a bubbly but sensual tune about being close to that one person you’ll be spending summer with.

“Giddy Up” by Shania Twain

Even if you’re not a country fan, you’ll love this hit single from Shania Twain. It’s a fusion of pop and country and sounds so similar to a young Taylor Swift. (Which is ironic, because Taylor definitely took inspiration from Shania early in *her* career.) “Giddy Up” is the song that’ll have you dancing in your underwear and sashaying your hips, fully lost in the beat.

“4EVA” by KAYTRANADA and Aminé ft. Pharell Williams

I mean, Aminé tweeted “we want u 2 dance this summer” mere minutes before he and KAYTRANADA released this single, so?? Take that for what you will.

“Beso” by Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro

You can’t have summer without some good reggaeton tunes to jam to and this reggaeton-fused-with-pop single definitely delivers. I gotta warn you though—this is a love song (it hard-launched Rosalía and Rauw’s relationship) so if summer is all single vibes, then best to skip this one. Unless you’re a hopeless romantic (yes, hi, hello) who loves listening to music that gives you alllll the feels.

“Die for You (Remix)” by The Weeknd ft. Ariana Grande

Listening to The Weeknd and Ari’s vocals together is like heaven. There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe the almost-romantic sound that the two singers make together. Here’s hoping there’s a future collab in the works, beause I’ll need more than just this summer single.
